Whole Numbers
Large whole numbers are divided into periods.
A comma separates each period and is a signal to name the period.
To pronounce a number, read the 3 digit number and name the period.
You do not name the ones period.
Decimals
A decimal point in a number lets you know the number is not a whole number and contains part of the next whole number expressed in decimal value.
The decimal point is a signal to say the word AND.
To read the decimal part of the number, read the number and name the PLACE VALUE.
