1 LIFE SAVING and H2O POLO ADVANCED PE

2 American Crawl (Freestyle)
Flutter Kick – Legs straight not stiff. Press down on water with the top of the foot Arms work alternately. Elbows straight but not stiff. Fingertips first. Arms near ears. Breathing- Every third stroke. Exhale in the water and then turn head to side and inhale.

3 BREASTSTROKE Frog Kick- Draw heels up towards the hips. Move legs outward and then snap legs together straight. Arms – Arms extended overhead. Press the palms outward and back towards the side of your body . Then reset arms Breathing – Every stroke.

4 SIDESTROKE Scissor Kick – Heels towards hips. Separate feet (Top leg forward). With your legs straight, snap them together. Arm action – Ear in the water. Underarm extended ahead of you along the surface of the water. Sweep arm toward chest where other arm lies, then push with other arm and reset arm ahead of you. Breath – Head above water at all times.

5 BACK CRAWL (RACING BACKSTROKE)
Flutter Kick - Legs straight not stiff. Press down on water with the bottom of the foot. Arm Action- Alternate arm. Pinky enters the water first. Pull with straight arm until hand is along the hip. Breathing – Head above water.

6 ELEMENTARY BACKSTROKE(RESTING)
Frog Kick Bring hands up underwater to the armpits. Then extend them straight. Pull arms to side of the body and glide. Breathing – Head above the water.

7 WATER ENTRY

8 STRIDE JUMP Jump far out with legs wide open. Snap legs together as they enter the water. Lean forward. Arms are stretched outward. Push arms forward in an attempt to splash as arms enter the water. Aim is to keep the head above the water.

9 FEET FIRST ENTRY Keep feet together and legs straight.
Keep arms at your side. Look for dangerous object in the water.

10 SURFACE DIVES

11 FEET FIRST SURFACE DIVE
With the body in an upright position, hands at sides, snap your legs together in a vertical scissor kick. This will raise you out of the water. Then sink vertically. As your face goes under, push your hands upward and sideways, palms leading. Keep your feet together and toes pointed to streamline.

12 PIKE SURFACE DIVE From a freestyle position, start the arm action of the breaststroke. Sharply bend at the hips, angling the upper part of your body towards the bottom while arms continue pulling to the thighs. The legs remain straight along the surface. Extend the arms above the head and raise legs into the air, straightening the body to a vertical position.

13 WATER RESCUES

14 DROWNING Drowning is death by asphyxiation, which is the loss of consciousness resulting from too little oxygen in the blood. If the drowning victim inhales water, death can result from water in the pulmonary system.

15 VICTIMS Active victim (Conscious) – Struggles in the water.
Passive Victim (Unconscious) – Slips underwater or floats facedown on or near the surface of the water.

16 SAVING THE ACTIVE VICTIM

17 Use reaching devices; sherperd’s crook rescue tube ring buoy shirt stick or pole rope

18 READY POSITION Feet out in front of you. Sitting in the water.
Paddle to victim. Used to gain quick separation.
