Wages As time progressed business owners paid their workers less and less They could do this due to the many people looking for work This is different to Lowell’s factory because they provided food and housing to their workers with better work conditions The Effects Women and children worked in these factories Men didn't because they couldnt earn enough from these jobs to support these families

Working Hours Long hours (7:00 a.m. to dark)
Monday through Saturday and some Sundays Working over 60 hours a week Weren’t paid for overtime Factory owners would set the clock back so that workers wouldn’t know they were working overtime This meant that they wouldnt have to pay them

Safety/Work Conditions
Fire was the most common cause of death in factories This was due to the fact that factories didn’t have fire escapes or sprinklers This is because factory owners didn’t want to pay for it This was illegal Crowded work conditions In the winter it was extremely cold and in the summer it was extremely hot
