Por ejemplo When you comb your hair, you are the one combing, and you are the one getting combed Compare that with When you brush a dog, you are the one brushing, but your dog is the one getting brushed

Otro ejemplo When you wash your face, you are the one washing, and you are the one getting washed Compare that with When you wash your car, but your car is the thing getting washed

See the difference? Me lavo la cara Lavo mi carro (I wash my face)
(I wash my car)

See the difference? Me peino en la noche Ella peina a su hermana
(I comb my hair at night ) Ella peina a su hermana (She combs her sister’s hair)

You’ll know a verb is reflexive
Because the verb will have “se” at the end Lavarse Acostarse Bañarse

In English This is like adding “oneself” after the verb To wash oneself To comb oneself To dress oneself

Common reflexive verbs to know…
SO WRITE THESE DOWN!!! Lavarse - to wash (oneself) Bañarse – to bathe (oneself) Levantarse – to get (oneself) up Mirarse – to look at (oneself) Afeitarse – to shave (oneself) Cepillarse – to brush one’s teeth Acostarse – to lie (oneself) down Dormirse – to put (oneself) to sleep Vestirse – to dress (oneself)

To conjugate reflexive verbs
Lavar se Drop the “se” from the end and move it out in front

The “se” has its own conjugation
SE me nos te X se se

The rest of the verb is usually conjugated as a normal verb
Lavar se lavo lavamos lavas X lava lavan

Once you have the two conjugations
se lavar me nos lavo lavamos te X lavas X I wash (myself) se se lava lavan Just match up the forms that go together

SO the steps are: 1. Drop the “se” and move it out in front 2. Conjugate the “se” 3. Conjugate the primary verb 4. Match up the corresponding forms
