What ever you do to the top, you must do the same to the bottom of the fraction. In this case we have halved it, to get three twelfths and then divided by 3 to get one quarter.

In my box there are 8 blue Smarties.

The remainder of the Smarties are Yellow. Can you work out how many there are?

We also know that there are 6 red Smarties.
Finally, we know that there are 8 blue Smarties.
Therefore…8 + 6 = 14
24 – 14 = 10
There are 10 yellow Smarties.
