Joint-Stock company: Allows several investors to pull their capital together and mutually share risk. Early corporations
Goals: Find gold, find a passage to Asia and India, demonstrate power, disseminate western culture and spread Christianity.
Problems: Hot, humid, malaria, brought over wealthy people and artisans that didn’t know how to farm, fish, …survive

Starving Time: 60/400 survive = 15%
