Outreach for Hope In short, Outreach for Hope is a FUNDRAISING and GRANTMAKING organization raising funds from congregations, foundations and donors to provide grants to congregations and ministries serving in low-income neighborhoods. FUNDRAISING Our fundraising efforts include seeking funds from congregations, individual donors, foundations, corporations and through special events. Our biggest fundraising event of the year is the OFH Family Bike Ride that takes place every September with ride locations in Waukesha and Ozaukee Counties. The Bike Ride provides much of the funding in addition partnering with congregations, donors and foundations that have a passion for this work. We want to thank all of our donors…all of you here today, who contribute and give of your time and resources to Outreach For Hope. GRANTMAKING Outreach for Hope makes grants to congregations and ministries that provide: Basic needs to people in poverty, such as: food pantries, soup kitchens, clothes closets, and transportation needs Self-sustainability programs to empower people out of poverty, such as: job search counseling, job coaching, GED preparation Leadership Development for pastors and lay-people, such as: The Urban Internship Fund that supports up to 2-3 seminary interns for one year to serve congregations in low-income communities, leadership camps for youth and children. Poverty Justice to support congregations and ministries in the work of reconciliation and hope, such as: supporting federal, county and local policy that would alleviate poverty, partnering with the prison system in the work of re-entry of felons. In 2019 we are granting out $330,0000 in grants to 19 congregations and ministries. Grants are given on an annual basis. Applications are due Oct. 1 and are reviewed by a committee that includes Bishop Paul Erickson, pastors, board members and community representatives. FAMILY That is a bit of who are and what we do. While Outreach for Hope is a fundraising and grantmaking organization it is much for than that – it is a FAMILY. A family made up of brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the synod who come together and journey together – black & white, rich & poor - to provide love and hope for all in our community. And now, Maripat will share with you how you can put your faith into action and get involved with loving our community through Outreach for Hope.

OUTREACH FOR HOPE Thanks Maripat. A special thanks to all of you who give of your time and resources to OFH and for those of you to consider supporting the work of OFH. I am often reminded of the life-giving work we do at Outreach for Hope and this photo is an example of what we see everyday among the congregations and ministries supported by OFH. This photo of Gary Ingram at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Wisconsin Ave. I takes a simple task and elevates it to someone doing God’s work. Any questions or comments before we move on?

CREATING CONGREGATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS
BETTER TOGETHER: CREATING CONGREGATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS The topic of our session today is HOPE FOR THE JOURNEY. And while we have called this session HOPE FOR THE JOURNEY, a subtitle to this session could be called – BETTER TOGETHER: CREATING CONGREGATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS. For we are on this journey of faith and life together and partnerships provide hope and much more. This session was born out of an increasing need and interest in creating and cultivating partnerships among congregations and ministries. In addition, there is a lack of information on how go about the work of creating and growing partnerships and what are best practices. To frame our discussion we want to ask a series of questions: Why form partnerships? What’s the benefit of it? What is a partnership? What are key components of setting up and nurturing a partnership? What pitfalls should we avoid? How to evaluate & monitor partnerships? And to help frame our discussion here are some thoughts on partnerships.
