Education & Training WG
Short Agenda E&T WG Meeting ARTEMIS Summer Camp 2010, 8. June 2010, 17:00 – 18:00 E&T WG Position: Importance of E&T, Vision, Mission and Strategy in ARTEMIS context Report on last year’s activities and contributions of the WG to MASP SRA WP 2010 Reconsider our input and position by strengthening the important points in an updated contribution, and Discuss an outline for our “white paper”. Other issues: Orchestra Contest, Students Day Idea

ARTEMIS: a Europe ecosystem of innovation ecosystems Constituents
Artemisia will stimulate and facilitate the emergence of sustainable innovation ecosystems in Europe within the field of embedded systems, and seek their integration into an ecosystem of innovation ecosystems. ARTEMIS SUSTAINABLE Innovation Ecosystems Sub-Programmes Business Models Open Inno- vation R&D Standards Positioning Education and Training SME involve- ment Education Tool Platform External Relations

E&T WG: Work Programme 2009/10 - Achievements
Second joint meeting with COSINE2: Salzburg, Main conclusions from COSSINE2 members recommendations: COSINE2 partners suggested mandatory inclusion of an “E&T section” as part of big Artemis project proposals (as it is now requested already with respect to standardization) (for 2010 WP) COSINE2 partners suggested as a requirement for large Artemis projects to be eligible for funding an educational module (to link with the concept of platform, e.g. a training module for each tool platform as additional outcome, etc.).. COSINE2 partners agreed that the recommendation that E&T type industrial projects should be included in the Artemis WP as a long term goal should be part of the SRA, as a long term need to achieve sustainable ecosystems, backed by industry. NOT ACHIEVED BY NOW, BUT: There were requests from members (e.g. Russia, St. Petersburg University) for some E&T project in ARTEMIS – disappointment about the fact that at the moment this is not part of the WP!!! RECONSIDER for next WP !!! COSINE2 partners recommended to submit a support action or similar in the next FP7 calls (if applicable) to cover the objectives formulated by the E&T WG for the Artemis WP

E&T WG Summer Camp 2010: Reconsider Input to AWP
Major input to ARTEMIS WP (text proposals): Add a chapter on E&T in the “Requirements Section” (§ 4.x), 4.x Education and Training A crucial factor to maintain leadership and competitiveness in a fast dynamic evolving technological environment and fragmented economic, industrial and scientific area in the long term are education and training which build the foundations for sustainable evolution. The Artemis project has to make a contribution into this area. Specifically, proposals must make explicit their intended contribution to: - provide a training facility (toolset, platform) for the platform used or implemented (support for training only purposes) - provide an E&T plan to promote wide-spread use of the results of the project in the community

E&T WG Summer Camp 2010: Reconsider Input to AWP (cont’d)
Add a paragraph on E&T in the Innovation chapter 4.7, (similar to standards) e.g. .... Examples of such contribution to the Innovation Environment may include: - The contribution of the project to European initiatives towards education and training, with specific focus on industrial requirements and needs. What happened? See Change History of Section 4, Requirements: 3) Section on Innovation Environment Integration now includes former section on SMEs and new material on Education and Training. Section 4.8, Innovation Environment: With regard to Education and Training, the ARTEMIS Strategic Research Agenda sets out the aim to “overcome the gap between the theory of academic education and the practice in industrial application”. Proposals should describe their specific intended contribution to this aim.

E&T WG Summer Camp 2010: Reconsider Input to AWP (cont’d)
Extension of project evaluation criteria: Full Project Proposals 4. Market innovation and impact Appropriateness of measures for the dissemination of project results. Contribution to standards. Contribution to E&T objectives (e.g. training sets for platforms, education and training action plans) Management of intellectual property. What happened? This part of evaluation criteria was NOT changed (extended). Recommendation 2010: Text in 4.7, 4.8 and evaluation criteria should be more detailed and look mandatory, as proposed last year.

E&T WG: SummerCamp June 2010 Contribution
Contribution to the ARTEMIS MASP2010 Encourage creation and implementation of new methods effectively (e-Learning, Blended Learning, Remote/Home Lab Training etc.), thus contributing to new infrastructures. Initiate new types of mobility programmes with industrial focus Develop concepts to create spin-off and start-up high-tech companies efficiently. Raise public awareness outside the conventional education and training paths for the challenges and chances of embedded systems and intelligence application Contribution to the ARTEMIS SRA – Check again The contribution of the E&T WG to the SRA tends to address academic/ university educational issues as well as professional training of people that form the existing active workforce, in order to meet the current industrial needs, support and train “innovators” and creative enterpreneurs, improve recruitment and motivation of the public for engagement in technological areas.

E&T WG: MASP 2009 Contribution
Other issues discussed with the Artemisia Office: Discussion of ORCHESTRA Contest with Artemisia Office ongoing Music platform: Idea of virtual orchestra contest supported (Web-based, interactive) as continuous activity to attract new contributors (to be promoted via the E&T WG as well) First Set-up done by Artemisia Office Support of idea „Students Day“ at ARTEMIS/ITEA2 Summit in Gent Chamber B and WG involved for promotion and support Additional, inclusion of industry and SMEs to raise awareness for the ARTEMIS industrial focus (not just another academic event)

E&T WG: Work Programme 2010, next steps
Cooperation with COSINE2 (input from last workshop received), ReSIST (joint WS with EWICS TC7) and Artist2 continued. COSINE2 Workshop “International ES Strategies Policy Conference“ in Vienna, on March 18-19, 2010 (Artemis Austria) Work performed in other European groups is studied, (e.g. UK Electronics Skill Foundation E&T Initiative) Still open issue (to be continued): Get specific Artemis (industrial) input from Chamber C and A (Contacts of Chamber A and C were invited yesterday, but parallel WG sessions inhibited participation) Next step 2010: « White paper » on E&T in the Embedded Systems Area.
