1 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 How to make change possible.
God Wants Us to Be Happy How to make change possible.

3 A closer look at Hebrews 6
It is impossible to be saved outside of the covenant that God has made through Jesus Christ.

4 Let’s set the stage for this series of lessons.
What is repentance? Why is it so important to God? why does He command it? Why should it be important to us?

5 Repentance is: According to the dictionary: Deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like. Regret for any past action. We tend to define repentance as a feeling, just a feeling. God’s word defines repentance as a feeling coupled with an action that changes the relationship that an individual has with God.

6 Repentance is: The simple biblical definition of repentance is change and when you look closely at the passages they often demand that there be evidence of this change: Examples of this are seen in Luke 3:3-8 and Acts 26, passages we looked at last week.

7 Hebrews 6:1 Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, In other words, let’s make our calling and election sure!

8 Be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure.
2 Peter 1:3-11… How does Hebrews 10 help us with Hebrews 6? Think about who were these people, what was their background? One way to help see the problem is to think about how the fellowship was between the gentile christians and the jewish christians…

9 Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

10 Keep it in context We need to understand that this word repentance in Hebrews 6:6 doesn’t stand alone in the context, it’s a reference to the event and experience of salvation as previously describe in verses 4 & 5. When we see it as something that stands alone we confuse it with the idea of confession.

11 Here’s how they connect…
People who experience a falling away, a break in fellowship, do not need to be saved again, they need to be restored and this begins with, confession. We often correlate this with repentance because there does need to be a change, a change in behavior, practice, commitment, and association(s). 1 John 1:5-2:6 & James 5:16

12 The Lost Son, Luke 15 He was always a son.
Outside the fellowship with his father he experienced no blessings, he was described as lost and dead. His confession led to his restoration with his father and he was once again a son in fellowship with his father and with that came all the blessings of being in fellowship, one of those being forgiveness.

13 Are you a son? Ephesians 1:5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 13&14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

14 Invitation God has set it before you… You must choose, Life or Death…
To be in fellowship with God or not to be… Today is a good day to die, to self…
