4 Course Particulars PREPARATION:
Students should have programming experience with a high-level language, preferably C++ or Java, and good understanding of basic data structures. Specific course prerequisites are CS101, CS201, and CS352. Students who have not had the prerequisites must have permission of the instructor to enroll. 2/25/2019

5 Course Particulars ATTENDANCE:
Highly recommended, but not required. If you miss class, you need to get notes and other information from a classmate RULES CONCERNING PROGRAMMING ASSIGNMENTS: Late programs will be accepted, but a late penalty will apply unless there are extenuating circumstances. The grade for a late program will be reduced by 10% for each 24-hour period (or portion thereof) for each school day that it is late (weekends are free). If you must be out of town, you may turn in an assignment early. If you have particular hardships as a result of your job, you need to discuss your situation with me right away. In rare circumstances, a late penalty may be waived. 2/25/2019

6 Course Particulars Program source code and output are to be handed in electronically. Paper copies may also be required. Please read the instructions for electronic submission posted on the web page if you aren’t familiar with them. If you do not have an H: drive you need to let me know asap. Your work cannot be submitted unless you have a folder on H: 2/25/2019

7 Course Particulars ASSESSMENT: Projects/Labs 30% Homework/Quizzes 16% Exams - Best 3 out of 18% each for a total of % of your grade. I will automatically drop your lowest exam grade. If you have an A going into the final you can skip it! Quizzes may be given at random times. Exams will be given approximately every 6 weeks. 2/25/2019

8 Course Particulars If you have a question about any grade received, you must see me or the grader within 10 school days of receiving the grade. After 10 school days have elapsed, no adjustment will be made to any grade. MAKEUPS: Makeup of missed exams will be allowed only if prior arrangements have been made, and only for compelling reasons. No makeups of outside-class work will be allowed after the missed work has been graded and returned. GRADE APPEAL POLICY: The policy can be read at 2/25/2019

9 Course Particulars INCOMPLETES:
In accordance with University policy, incompletes will be given only for reasons defined by the university (e.g., serious illness or other serious reason beyond the student's control which prevents the student from finishing coursework). If an incomplete is assigned, the student must complete all work without re-enrolling in the course or attending additional classes. Disappointing performance is not considered to be a reason for an incomplete. 2/25/2019

10 Course Particulars CONDUCT:
A student enrolling in any UMKC course is expected to exhibit high standards of academic honesty. In the case of academic misconduct, I will assess the affected work and report the incident according to the guidelines printed in the catalog. The Vice-Provost may impose additional sanctions ranging from "Warning" to "University Suspension" to "University Expulsion." The rules governing any suspected violation are clearly spelled out in the UMKC catalog and will be followed to the letter. You can read the complete set of rules at 2/25/2019

11 Course Particulars Programs with duplicate code will receive a grade of 0. This policy will apply to both the person who copies the work and the one who provides it. Programs may be checked by the MOSS system (UC BERKELEY) for detection of plagiarism. MOSS information is available at If a suspected case of academic dishonesty is reported, a course grade of incomplete will be assigned until the matter is resolved and the case closed. 2/25/2019
