Consideration of Athletics
No consideration of athletics participation, ability, performance or leadership. Consideration of athletics. Leadership grants. Endowments with a stated consideration of athletics. Matrix-rating systems (Bylaw ). Policies and procedures should be the same for all students. Bylaws (a), (b) and

Unjustified Impact Student-athlete packages should not be clearly distinguishable from the general pattern of awarding. The proportion of student-athletes should be closely equivalent to the proportion of aid they receive. Bylaw (c) and (d)

Athletics Staff Involvement
January 7, 2013, Official Interpretation. Interaction versus influence. Athletics staff should play no role in the determination of institutional gift. Cannot “arrange or modify” a financial aid package. Bylaw

Aid From Outside Sources
Student-athletes are permitted to receive financial aid from outside sources that consider athletics, provided: The award is made on only one occasion (but may be disbursed over multiple years). The donor of the aid shall not limit the recipient’s choice of institutions to a specific institution. The donor of the award is not connected to the recipient’s institution. Bylaw

Issues identified by the NCAA Division III Financial Aid Committee. Lack of awareness. Restriction of recipient’s choice of institution. Relative amount of outside aid compared to other aid. Ability of financial aid offices to monitor. Lack of information on criteria. Number of aid sources. Timing of receipt of the aid. Administrative burden.

March 1 to June 1 NCAA Financial Reporting System Voluntary submission of athletics finance information. September 1 to January 15
