Friday, Sept. 9th: Mass with our Bishop (12:15 Mass). We will bless the opening of our new road and celebrate 10 years as a school.
Our third grade year is officially under way! It was wonderful to see so many faces at Back to School Night. I hope that our time together was informative. We have concluded our assessments and academics are under way!
In reading, we will begin our Guided Reading meetings and begin to focus on text within small groups. This will enable children to focus on the skills they are ready for. Students will also begin nightly reader’s response with goals more specifically outlined. Our first reading unit focuses on Story Elements. Together, we will share text and take a closer look at the elements within their assigned text. To end our unit students will create a brochure highlighting the story elements of a chosen text.
In grammar we are looking at sentence structure and how we can write complete and thoughtful sentences. This will help us as we begin our unit in writing which is themed: Writer’s Survival Guide. Students will begin to generate writing topics and how to turn them into cohesive writing pieces. Students will take their writing through the writing process during this first unit. Writing topics will be focused on narratives and personal feelings and reflections on topics that they have chosen. As we move forward into the month, a more precise writing assignment will be given. Students will expected to take this topic through the writing process as they create a final piece.
