10 We suggest applying to 3-5 different schools
We suggest applying to 3-5 different schools. In selecting schools, students should take note of the following categories…   Safety School-A school for which the student’s GPA and test scores far exceed those of the average admitted students. (Students should have one of these on their list.) Match School-A school for which the student’s GPA and test scores are on par with the average admitted students. (The majority of student’s school should come from this category.) Reach School-A school for which the student’s GPA and test scores are below the average admitted students. (Students may or may not elect to have these types of schools on their list.)

11 What do colleges use to evaluate applicants?
Transcript: Grades, GPA, Class Rank, and Curriculum Test Scores: SAT or ACT Extracurricular Activities: Clubs, Sports, Jobs, Community Service, Summer Programs, Local Organized Activities (ex. Piano Lessons, Church Choir, Boy Scouts, Etc.) Recommendation Letters: Submit up to three letters. One should be from a teacher. We suggest sending one from someone outside the classroom setting (club sponsor, coach. employer, etc.). The third can come from any adult who works with the student in an official capacity (ex. another teacher, a counselor, an activity sponsor, etc.). Students should provide the recommender with a stamped envelope that has already been addressed to the school or scholarship. The brag sheet is helpful when getting started. Give your recommender at least two weeks notice. Not all colleges require a letter of recommendation.

14 Test Scores Students must submit their official SAT or ACT scores to colleges directly from the ACT or the CollegeBoard. (Four are sent free when you register for the test. Afterwards, the SAT charges $10.50 and the ACT charges $10 per additional score reports.) Seniors who have not taken either test and plan to apply to a four year college should register immediately. Depending upon household income, students may qualify for SAT or ACT fee waivers. These cannot be used for late registration or standby registration. Students who use a fee waiver for a test will also qualify to get four fee waivers for college applications.

16 Notes What is Colleges request a large amount of information from applicants, and the site simplifies the process by collecting as much of that information all in one place.  You can check the CFNC or College Board website to see if your GPA and or SAT/ACT scores match the requirements to get into the college you wish to apply to. Explore deadlines and academic requirements. Call colleges if you need clarification on something. Make a to-do list with monthly goals and ask yourself: A.) Are you on track to graduate B.) What do I need to do to make this happen? Students will receive transcripts as I meet with them Hampton University is waiving the college application fee waiver through September 30
