Many people has a prejudice about Chinese Cities. They assume that the fabulous part of the city is only the appearance, and for the inside part of the city, they think that it would be underdeveloped, and filthy. Moreover, many people thinks that the culture of Chinese city is being extinct because of the absence of soul, only concerning about over-development of the city. Few seems to be true in Shanghai, but when you visit Shanghai, you will think that these were just a useless prejudice. Shanghai definitely has a unique culture, and the whole streets, alleys are filled with full of cultural aspects. In this presentation, I am going to show you three sides of Shanghai. Golden Shanghai : The Bund
Meaning ‘embankment’ in English, this area is fulfilled with buildings since 19C to early 20C. Fifty-two historical buildings of various architectural styles are being remained here. Those buildings were used to be many western investments like HSBC, and prestigious social clubs. The area was considered as westerner’s base of exploitation during the early 20th century. Nowadays, it stands for prestige of Shanghai, as VIP clubs, high-class restaurants are located here, while shiny fabulous buildings attract tourists. When you visit Shanghai without any previous information, you will be shocked when the streets are full with such a western buildings.

Skyscraping Shanghai : Pudong New District
Shanghai is one of the most rapidly growing city. Three skyscrapers in Pudong New District, all higher than 400m, stands for Shanghai’s rapid growth. This district is located right across the bund. Yan’an Elevated Road, which provides the core of the transportation, shines with fabulous illumination at night.

Shanghai, A Melting Pot : Where Orient Meets Occident
Shanghai is a gigantic melting pot, where oriental cultures meet western cultures, while it rages to become a newest postmodern city. These aspects causes Shanghai to be most artistic city, producing unique styles that are mixed with their heritages and western styles. Still, Shanghai keeps its original heritages too. Suzhou provides 28 UNESCO heritage gardens, where we can smell the true Chinese culture.
