1 Many truths that the Lord asks us to believe and practice seem upside down at first glance. Examples include “the first will be last,” “he humbles himself will be exalted,” and “he who governs” should be “as he who serves.” The most challenging of these truths may be that human suffering can bring rejoicing and glory. But full faith in the suffering Son of God can even make sense of that truth. Matthew 5:40-42

2 Upside down truths The first will be Last (Matthew 19:30; 20:16; Luke 13:30) He who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 14:11; 18:14) The ruler should be a servant (Luke 22:25-26)

3 Suffering can bring rejoicing
Suffering works to purify & increase faith (1 Peter 1:6-7) God knows what He is doing He foresaw your suffering and sent His Son to suffer for you (Rev. 13:8; Acts 3:18; Hebrews 2:9) He knows that suffering can increase faith, make us more Christ-like, and bring us to glory (1 Peter 2:21-23; 3:17-18; 4:13)
