1 Episode 2: Cellular Respiration
Season 3 Episode 2: Cellular Respiration Objective: Compare and contrast photosynthesis and cellular respiration

2

3 Fill out the photosynthesis portion of foldable 15 minutes!

4 Cellular Respiration Aerobic Process: Requires oxygen
Breaks down sugars to create energy. C6H12O6 + 6O2→ 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP

5 B. Why is Cellular Respiration important?
Makes useable energy (ATP) out of glucose. All living organisms require ATP Creates CO2 which plants love!

6 C. Structure of Cells: Cells contain mitochondria, the site of cellular respiration

7 2. The mitochondria has a folded membrane inside to increase surface area for reactions.

8 D. Factors affecting cellular respiration
Concentration of Oxygen Oxygen is inhaled into the lungs, then diffuses into the bloodstream to be taken to cells. As more energy is needed, oxygen intake is increased until a maximum is reached

9 Temperature: Temperature increases = Rate of cellular respiration increases Temperature increases too much = protein damage

10 CO2 Concentration High CO2 = Lower rate of cellular respiration
