Volcanoes and Mountains
Topic 6 + 7
2
Volcanoes A volcano is an opening in the Earth’s crust
Like earthquakes, volcanoes can be formed when tectonic plates push against each other
3
How are these two maps similar?
Map of known volcanoes
4
How does this map relate to the previous two?
5
Mountains Mountains can be formed by tectonic plates coming together
The lighter plate will go on top of the heavier plate Molten rock may also push up the lighter plate
6
Mountains Mountain ranges will have strata from erosion and weathering
These strata can give us data about the age of fossils, minerals and the mountains
