1 In Chronicles Of A Death Foretold
WOMEN In Chronicles Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel Carcia Marquez

2 The main women in Chronicles
Placida Linero; the mother of Santiago Nasar Margot; the sister of the narrator Angela Vicario; the returned bride Luisa Santiaga; the mother of the narrator

3 Placida Linero A strong character; she displays a confidence and determination that many of the men lack Practical when she finds out her son is going to be killed Friends with many in the town; a influential character

4 Luisa santiaga Much the same as Placida; determined, has confidence and knows many people, influential. When she finds out what is going to happen to Santiago Nasar she does not weep or panic like the stereotype of women; she is practical and immediately gets ready and goes out to try and stop the event from happening; ‘No soondr had she heard the news than she put on her high heeled shoes... ‘To warn my dear friend Placida’... ‘It isn’t right that everybody should know that they’re going to kill her son and she’s the only one that doesn’t.

5 Margot Margot has been a lifelong friend of Santiago Nasar; she is the only woman who appears to be visibly distressed by the events. ‘My sister came home gnawing at herself inside to keep from crying.’

6 Angela Vicario Angela Vicario is the most important character in Chronicles. She is the returned bride, returned because she lost her virginity before marriage. She appears to be shy, and we don’t see much emotion from her... the storyline is more around her than she is in the storyline. She is seen as an object in the book, with no opinion of her own; the only ones who think otherwise are her brothers who uphold her honour.

7 Women in general Women in general in this book do not conform to the general stereotype. They are typically independent, strong willed and more decisive than they’re male counterparts. Marquez could be making a point here about Stereotypes and it is possible that he is writing this novel from a feminist point of view
