2. Claim- something that can be proved or disproved with evidence.

3. Claim examples:
- The other children do not like Margot.
- The mood in this scene is gloomy.
- This character is selfish.
- It will be sunny tomorrow.
- Tommy likes chocolate ice-cream.

4. Things to make claims about
- What is the mood of the setting?
- How does the setting affect a character?
- How do the characters react differently to the setting?
- What do we know about the character's personality?
- What is a theme in this story?

5. Evidence- proof of a claim.

The other children do not like Margot. We know this because the author tells us " They hated her pale snow face, her waiting silence, her thinness, and her possible future." The author also shows this by including dialogue where the other children all make fun of her, and by describing Margot standing apart from the others.
