The Moon’s period of rotation equals its period of revolution
For every 90o it rotates, it revolves 90o. Its orbit is also inclined at about 6 degrees!

As the moon is waning the light is draining Waxing phases: the light grows from the right Waning phases: the dark grows from the right Always look to the lighted portion to determine a gibbous or crescent
