1. Summer Education

2. What is Summer learning?
An education system in place to support summer learning to students who would not regularly have access to education.

3. Why?
Usually children in upper class families have access to summer education from travel, camps, or tutors to keep their minds focused academically.
Children that do not have these opportunities generally lose interest in school over the summer and forget the things they learn school year to school year.

4. How is it different?
Summer classes would be an education program, from the schools offered to children of either higher achievement that could learn more, or children that have fallen behind in their studies to prepare them for the upcoming year.
Teachers would not be constrained to state mandated tests.

5. Results?
A summer program that was designed for children in the first grade had a mixture of academic activities, sports, and art classes. This program alone resulted In higher literacy grades that carried over half a year later (David)

6. Teenage Results?
Teenagers that participated in these programs had a higher confidence and reasoning abilities because of their positive personal interaction with adults.

Lack of Funding
Motovation

8. What Can We Do? Ask for funding for these programs from our congress.
Schools in Minnesota were give 95 million dollars to help low income students to minimize the achievement gap. (Patterson)
