3 Redundancy and Damage Tolerance
With the advent of low-cost and high-MTBF MEMS sensor products, and high-speed data buses, more so than ever higher levels of hardware redundancy are tenable. 4 Damage Tolerance (2) Demonstration Scenario (Moderate turbulence, 160 kts.) Vehicle has four spoilers for yaw control (drag devices) and two elevons. At t=7s, a missile hit under the right wing causes a large roll excursion; completely destroys one yaw spoiler, and damages one elevon (halves its authority). The nominal controller levels out the vehicle and initiates adaptation, commanding a doublet in roll, followed by a doublet in sideslip. Vehicle successfully recovers original controller performance ACG FALL 2005
