2. Metaphor:
Metaphor – A metaphor is a direct comparison between two seemingly unrelated things. A metaphor always says that one thing IS another thing ( even though we know they are very different).

A figure of speech in which two essentially unlike things are compared, often in a phrase introduced by ‘like’ or ‘as’.

10. Your task for tonight
Step 1: Find a song that has at least two different similes. Identify each simile, and explain how each relates to the overall meaning.
Step 2: Bring in a copy of the lyrics of your song, and present your findings to the class. You may bring in an mp3 or CD copy of the song to add to your presentation, if you would like. Each presentation will be given a mark out of 20 (10 marks per explanation of simile). All presentations are due in tomorrow’s class.
