Aims of the meeting… Understand the tests your child has completed.
What your child has achieved in their test. Information explaining your child’s results. Results How you can help at home.

Assessments… Complete three tests each term.
Aims of the tests are to celebrate children’s achievements and identify next steps. Tests consist of: - Maths - English Reading - Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling - Writing (moderated throughout the year)

Assessments… End of National Curriculum expectation is a scaled score of 100. Guidance of results… Each envelope contains 3 sheets with your child’s outcomes for Reading, Maths and Grammar punctuation and spelling. You will be informed whether your child is emerging, expected or exceeding for their age group. Working towards <99 Working at Working at greater depth >115

SAMPLE of Results… Strands showing how your child performed in the different topics within the subject. Raw score is then converted to the age standardised score. Breakdown of you child’s total score within a specific topic. The raw score your child achieved.

How you can support… Maths
Working towards Help your child to learn number bonds to 10, then 20. Discuss shapes and time. Number formation Working at Addition and subtraction for numbers to 20. Assist your child to complete their MyMaths homework (and any other homework). Working at greater depth Continue to support your child with all of the above. Counting on and back in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s to 100.

How you can support… Reading
Working towards Read every day Encourage your child to segment and blend words together. Learn the high frequency words. Encourage pleasure for reading – modelled behaviour. Working at Read at least 3 times per week but strive for five! Questioning – comprehension, retelling and inference. Learn to read the Year 1 common exception words. Working at greater depth In depth questioning. Regular visits to the local library.

How you can support… Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
Working towards Encourage writing by celebrating this at home. Robot talking and finger telling. Modelled behaviour. Working at Use grammatically correct language when child writes at home – avoid using slang, e.g. ‘gonna’ vs going to. They will write what they say. Learn to spell the Year 1 common exception words and phase 5 tricky words. Discuss punctuation and how it is important in a sentence. Working at greater depth Discuss writing – is it grammatically correct? Can it be improved and edited?

Phonics Daily session Letters and Sounds High Frequency words
Spellings We encourage the children to use their phonics when reading and writing in all curriculum areas. Phonic Screening Test Monday 10th June 2019

Homework books Thank you so much for your support with your child’s home learning. It does encourage children when learning new phonemes and graphemes. We will be sending out word lists to learn and introducing spelling quizzes after Christmas.
