What is the Age of Revolutions?
A period in which democratic ideas prompted a large number of major revolutions in Europe and the Americas.

Revolution Quick Definition: A dramatic change in one or more aspects of society. Dramatic change: Fast change Large change Violent change

Kinds of Revolution Cultural: a dramatic change in how people interact or perceive certain issues. Political: a dramatic change in how the government functions. Economic: a dramatic change in how money and resources are dispersed, acquired, or traded. Social/societal: a dramatic change in the fundamental framework of society.

Political Revolutions
In this unit, we are going to be covering political revolutions. A Political Revolution must have the following traits: Violent or forceful overthrow of the government. Results in a change of political system.

Revolution, Rebellion, Coup, or Reform
The word “Revolution” is often used pretty loosely. The three main things that are confused for revolutions: Rebellion: an overthrow of a foreign government or other imperial governing body. Does not usually change political systems. Coup d'état: a replacing of the group in charge of a government. Does not usually change political systems. Reform: sometimes dramatic changes occur within the government without it being violently overthrown. These would be major reforms, not revolutions.

Assignment: Is the American Revolution really a revolution?
Primarily, assignments are the method by which we learn. Assignments can also be used to demonstrate that you know the material after the testing period is over. IF YOU CAN GET A 4 ON THE TESTS, your non-writing task assignments have no bearing on grade.
