Systems and Machines

2. Course Description Systems and Machines is a unit which introduces and develops a students understanding of control systems and systems which control machines. Students will explore mechanical and electrical systems used to control simple and compound machines. Students will research information and conduct practical activities to reinforce knowledge developed.

3. Student experiences in this unit Assessment tasks
Investigating and Design - Research, plans and written support information are used to convey an understanding of control systems and the role they play in todays society.
S or N and A-E
Production - Students will conduct practical activities and produce a major project to demonstrate an understanding of systems used to control a machine.
Analysing and Evaluating - Students will use evaluation criteria to reflect on practical
tasks and also the major project S or N and A-E
Exam - A written examination of the control systems topics studied during the
semester A-E

4. Subject pathway
This unit is aimed to prepare a student for possible VCE unit 1 &2 in the following area :-
Year-11 System and Technology Unit – 1 &2
or a semester in
Year-10 Aeronautical Engineering

5. Extra activities/costs?
All projects and practical activities undertaken in this Technology Elective are paid for within the department budget. There are no extra cost.
