Terms Static Image: Combination of words and images which does not move! Visual: Techniques you can see. For example colour choice, balance, contrast… Verbal: Written techniques. For example Alliteration, Metaphor, Repetition…. Visual Verbal: The link between the visuals you Link have used and the quotes or wording.

TASK 1: Identify the DVF Discuss the layout of this image. Identify TWO layout techniques used to make this image visually effective. How has the sense of a border been created? Explain the style of font used on “The Spiderwick Chronicals” and why this may have been chosen.

Task 2: Identify the DVF Name TWO techniques used to make the DVF stand out. Comment on the lack of background images. What technique is this and why is it used? How is a sense of balance created? Identify TWO techniques used to make the text stand out.

TASK 3: Identify TWO techniques used to make the lettering “Their war, Our world” stand out. What technique is used in regards to the way the images have been placed on the poster? Comment on the choice of colour used in this image. Explain the main colours used and why they may have been used.

Your Assignment For this assignment you must design a static image which reflects the main idea of ONE of the poems studied in class. Your static image must: Include a short quotation which relates to the main idea of the poem. Use images, colour, layout and font which link to the quotation and idea you have chosen. A3 size (landscape or portrait) Have a 150 word (minimum) commentary which explains the choices you have made in constructing your image and how it helps show the main idea.

You will be assessed on:
How well you communicate the main idea of your text. How effectively you have combined verbal and visual techniques. (text and images) How clearly you identify and explain the techniques you have used in your image.

Instructions: Choose which quote you want to use from the poems you have studied. Identify an important idea which relates to this quote. Brainstorm which images and techniques you could use to support this quote. Draft and create your static image. Write your commentary. Paste your commentary to the back of your finished image.
