10. The Iditarod is an annual (yearly) dog sled race
The Iditarod is an annual (yearly) dog sled race. Racers travel over 1,850 kilometers from Anchorage to Nome.

11. The race takes anywhere from 10-17 days.
Each team consists of dogs and one musher (the person who guides the sled). The dogs are harnessed to the sled and pull the musher.

12. The journey is challenging because of extreme conditions like icy rivers, snow, mountain ranges, and wide expanses of frozen tundra.
