Grammar Warm-up: Semicolon
Definition: You can use a semi-colon (;) to join two independent clauses. Joining two independent clauses this way implies that the two clauses are related and/or equal, or perhaps that one restates the other. (OWL at Purdue) Example “I just walked from class to class alone; I sat at lunch alone” (Alexie 83). “Go ahead; you can say it” (Alexie 164)! -- Sherman Alexie, True Diary Sherman Alexie Write-alike: Write 3 sentences that each have a semicolon. Your topic could be Valentine’s Day.
