The sacrifice of Jesus His life that made it possible What He said on the cross What His blood accomplished Your former spiritual state Your current spiritual state (1 Cor. 11:28) PREPARE for this

5 The Lord’s Supper Partaking “in spirit” It is a communion – fellowship with the Lord and one another – 1 Cor. 10:16-17 It is a declaration to yourself, your brethren and the world – 1 Cor. 11:26

6 The Lord’s Supper Preparing our minds
Being a weekly observance, it can become routine with little thought. Such is a serious danger – 1 Cor. 11:27-29 Remove distractions – personal (your cell phone, etc.) Think of others also As we sing “to prepare our minds” are we?

Realize the importance of the occasion Avoid a casual appearance Prepare – will you read scripture or make some comments? Paul reminded the brethren at Corinth Jesus instructed before He instituted the supper

9 Giving Partaking “in truth” Authority for a collection and a treasury
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Authority for a collection and a treasury Funds – free will offering, not compulsory, of brethren Funds received must be for purposes authorized – evangelism and limited benevolence

10 Giving Partaking “in spirit” 2 Corinthians 8-9 Churches of the first century demonstrated genuine care, even sacrificing 2 Cor. 8:1-5 – Macedonia, they first gave themselves to the Lord.

12 Giving Preparing our minds We need to train ourselves to give generously – it is attitude! Luke 21:1-4, widow with 2 mites, Luke 19:8 – Zacchaeus Acts 4:26-27 – Barnabas Consider what God has given us

Learn that there are blessings in giving (not the “health and wealth gospel”) - 2 Cor. 9:8-11 Acts 20:35 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Consider the church and her needs Don’t limit your giving to the Sunday contribution!

14 Are we giving God our very best as we worship Him?
