Def. Prepositions are words that indicate movement, time, place, etc. that connect parts of the sentence. Examples I ran to the house He lives around the corner I found the quarter under the couch He slept through the night.

Remember the cliché! If you can do it to a desk, it is probably a preposition! I walked around the desk. I walked to the desk. I crawled under the desk. I looked at the desk. I am near the desk. I jumped over the desk. I walked toward the desk. I skipped by the desk.

Object of the Preposition
The object of the preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition, which it modifies. I walked toward the desk. The mouse ran under the chair. I will go home at noon. I can skate without falling.

Prepositional Phrase The Preposition, the Object of the Preposition, and all other words that are modified are called the Prepositional Phrase None of the students are Freshmen. Cary, along with her friends, is happy about the test.

The Function of PP PPs will serve as adjectives or adverbs. Think about it! ADJ. The book on the floor is old. Which book? The one of the floor. ADV. Before class, Janice went to the toilet. When did Janice go? Before class. Where did she go? To the toilet

ATTENTION!!! THE OBJECT OF THE PREPOSITION CAN NEVER BE THE SUBJECT OF THE SENTENCE!!!! None of the students are freshmen. Cary, along with her friends, is happy about the test. The television on the floor is heavy.
