Movie on the Grove

Join us for Black History Month for a nice relaxing evening on the grove to watch Selma on a HUGE inflatable screen! We will be serving pizza, popcorn and drinks. The movie is free to all Santa Fe students, staff, and faculty and will start as soon as it gets dark (around 7:00 p.m.!)

Join us for the exhibition of "The Candy Shop," a short film (25min) that exposes the reality of sex trafficking in the United States. Following the film, a 20 minutes presentation will explore several questions. What kind of society is producing so many men willing to buy a woman or child for sex? The presenter will be Richard Tovar, the current president of the Alachua County Coalition Against Human Trafficking. Admission is free and open to the general public.

Cuca’s cozy rural life is shattered when his father leaves for the city, prompting him to embark on a quest to reunite his family. The young boy’s journey unfolds like a tapestry, the animation taking on greater complexity as his small world expands. Entering civilization, industrial landscapes are inhabited by animal- machines, with barrios of decoupage streets and shop windows, and flashing neon advertisements that illuminate the night. The story depicts a clash between village and city, hand crafted and mechanized, rich and poor – and throughout the tumult, the heart and soul of the people beats on as a song. The film’s music is on equal footing with the stunning visuals, a soundscape of pan-flute, samba, and Brazilian hip-hop mixing with the whirling carnival colors and exploding fireworks.

Former U.S. Diplomat John Caulfield: U.S. Interests in Cuba

John Caulfield is a former senior American diplomat in South American countries such as Peru and Venezuela. He was recently appointed as the Chief U.S. Interests Section in Cuba where he has seen a religious and economic upturn. Caufield will analyze diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, its current progress and future challenges.
This event is sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies, Oak Hammock, The University of Florida International Center and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. The UF International Center (UFIC) invites students and faculty to learn about current study-abroad programs and opportunities at the UF Study Abroad Fair.
Study-abroad programs help UF students discover new cultures, increase global awareness, enhance foreign language skills and establish new connections. UF faculty is also strongly encouraged to lead their own study-abroad program and teach abroad. Overseas internship opportunities are available for students seeking internship credit. Most financial aid can be used for study-abroad programs and study abroad can be used to satisfy summer residency requirements.
UF study abroad program directors, independent program providers and former study-abroad students will be available to share their international experiences. The UF Study Abroad Services staff will be available to explain the application process and help students and faculty begin their process and find the right program.

Gallery Talks- Dancing in the Moonlight: Zara Masks of Burkina Faso

Lisa Homann, Assistant Professor of Art History, University of North Carolina, Charlotte and Co-curator of the exhibition will offer a vivid portrayal of a white mask dance, addressing questions such as: “What does a moonlit white mask dance look like? How does audience participation shape the performance? And why is the sound of the masks so important?”

Exhibit: Voces Americanas: Latino Literature in the United States

A celebratory survey of works by Latinos in the past thirty years, Voces Americanas: Latino Literature in the United States presents images of authors, books, movie stills, public presentations, and illustrations. It is based on an original exhibition at the University of Houston Library that documented a quarter century of Hispanic publishing in the United States. Exhibit on loan from Humanities Texas.

Canned & Boxed Food Drive
Each year, Santa Fe College students, faculty and staff join forces to collect boxed and canned food for the Catholic Charities Gainesville annual Can-Do! community food drive. The donation wish list is: Peanut Butter, Tuna, Canned Meat, Canned Veggies, Canned Fruit, Pasta & Sauce, Nuts, Bottled Water.
