Working With Cartograms
2
Cartograms are a strange type of graph
Cartograms are a strange type of graph. Like all graphs, they show data in ways that help us visually understand the data.
3
In other words, cartograms make it easy to get information just by looking at them – instead of having to read all of the statistics.
4
Cartograms showing the same information may look slightly different.
Both of these compare populations. They are a bit different, but both are correct.
5
Which African countries have the largest populations?
Remember: Cartograms can look slightly different and still both be accurate. They are not actual maps. They represent comparative data.
6
How are these cartograms of Europe’s population different?
How are they the same?
7
SO: Cartograms show how different countries compare to each other on one subject (for example: population, GDP, oil exports, electricity production, number of cars, etc.).
