Operational Oceanography/Meteorology
Determining Factors in the Development of Marine Stratus Along the Central Coast LT Max Salazar
2
Overview Question: What are the determining factors for the development of marine stratus? Data: Obtain SST, ambient air temperatures, rawindsonde data and time series data during the Point Sur cruise. Examine satellite imagery from the cruise period. Methodology Conclusions
3
Methodology: Stratus vs. Non-stratus events
Will Look at: GOES-11 imagery, including infrared and HI-RES visual Plots of temperature and dew point temperature vs. height produced from data obtained from balloon launched rawindsonde Student accumulated data (Observation sheets) Temperature, Dew Point Temperature and SST from the time series data

Conclusion Changes in air temperature signified the
development/dissipation of marine stratus. During cases of marine stratus, inversion went up to about meters. During cases of no marine stratus, inversion went up to a height of 750 meters.
