Bell Work: Electric Fields
Electric field lines point towards ( negative / positive ) charges. There are fewer lines when a field is ( strong / weak ). Field lines are ( straight / curved ) when charges interact. Attraction is shown when field lines curve ( towards / away from ) each other. A ( positive / negative ) test charge will move in the direction of the arrows.

Electric Field Calculations
3
Magnitude (strength) of the electric field (E) can be calculated using
E = magnitude of electric field – unit is Newtons per Coulomb (N/C) F = electric force – unit N q = charge of body – unit is C
4
It takes work to move a charge against an electric field.
This work done per unit of charge is called potential difference. Unit for potential difference is the volt (V).
6
W = Work (or potential energy) (J) Q = charge (C)
The equation for calculating voltage is: symbols units V = voltage (V) W = Work (or potential energy) (J) Q = charge (C)
