Working in Groups

Sometimes at school, the teacher asks us to work in small groups on a project. This means there may be 2 or 3 or 4 other students. Some teachers call this working in cooperative groups.

When we work in small groups, teachers expect us to talk about our ideas and listen to other students talk about their ideas related to the topic or project we are working on.

“I would like to say something.
Sometimes it is my turn to talk. Sometimes it is my turn to listen. It is important to listen to other ideas so we can learn from other people. “I know it’s my turn to listen”

As we complete our project sometimes we will use my ideas and sometimes we will use other students’ ideas. This is OK. Not all of my ideas will be used.

Sometimes the teacher may give me a “job” to do in the group
Sometimes the teacher may give me a “job” to do in the group. The job might be a recorder or a reader or something else. The teacher will explain what the job is.

When I am working in a group I can look at the person who is talking and make a comment or ask a question about what they say.

I will try to listen to what others say when I am working in a small group.
