Week 1 (May 23 – May 27, 2016)
Accomplishments:
Read 6 number of research papers and summarized them
Began to examine the mathematical formulas used in previous papers for potential improvements that could lead to more accurate approximations of the Value of Information and the Value of Privacy.
Issues/problems encountered and solutions (if any):
The process of calculating the Value of the Information gathered from the user by the system based on the sole decision to accept a given offer is ambiguous and I think with more conversations with the Graduates and Dr. Turgut I will be able to more clearly understand the dynamic of the relationship between the Value of Information and the Value of Privacy.
Plans for next week:
Continue reading and summarizing research papers in the area of The Value of Information and Privacy
Learning about and installing PrivacyGate software onto an Android device and beginning to look at the code behind it to understand how it calculates and displays the information gathered from the user.
Examine the relationship between VoI and VoP and work on a closer mathematical formula for their approximations.
