1 Discretionary Management Service – April 2018 Portfolio Performance
Your financial affairs in a safe pair of hands The Offering The NLPFM Discretionary Management Service offers a number of different portfolios to clients. The needs of each client are considered independently and different portfolios are selected based on suitability and approach to risk after a discussion directly with the client. The philosophy of NLPFM is that irrespective of which standard portfolio or specially tailored portfolio is used, clients can be assured that their money is looked after with their interests at heart. The Month in Review April was a good month for risk assets across the board as equities bounced back after a prolonged period of volatility. All of the major indices were strong positives for the month in both Sterling and local terms, in particular the UK and Europe which had endured a tough period. A number of factors including sterling weakness led to this rebound, as earnings came through strong, fears of a UK hike in May allayed and a softening of tensions in the geopolitical space eased market concerns. The Bond markets were a mixed bag but on the whole were a small negative, with gilt yields rising in the UK and US, but we did get some protection from our floating-rate notes exposure. Our alternative holdings had a particularly good month after recently protecting well on the downside, and property continued ticking upwards. The MSCI UK Index was up 6.77% whilst the AFI Balanced Index was up 3.15% for the month. All of our portfolios have outperformed these benchmarks year-to-date, and we continue to deliver superior risk adjusted returns.
