Fun and engaging. (video, props, visuals) Silly rhymes and sayings help the children remember how each letter looks.

4 Key Words Orange words (decodable words- sounds you can blend together to make a new word.) Yellow words (tricky words- sounds you can not blend together to make a new word. ) Little and often Make it fun! (such as, memory pairs, snap, NSEW, fly squat the word)

5 Writing We use fun methods to help the children segment (words)
Chewing Gum Pulling apart Sliding down the arm Robot arms We start on magnetic boards then when ready move onto writing.

6 Writing Sentences 2 word sentences, such as the dog, the mat, the pig
Tricky key words 3 word sentences, such as the fat dog, the red mat Once they begin sentences we encourage the children to use finger spaces, re-read their sentence, a full stop and finally a capital letter. Pencil targets
