2. GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF MAMMARY GLAND
Many hormones are necessary for full mammary development
Proliferation of the mammary ducts (estrogen)
Lobules development (progesterone)
Gland development at puberty needed prolactin (rat), not know (human)
Full lobulo-alveolar development of the mammary gland take place (human)
In hypophysectomized rats, glucocorticoids, insulin and GH necessary for mammary development in response to other hormone, but they do not cause growth of the breast by themselves (see fig.)
Action of prolctin is enhanced by GH, thyroxine and cortisol
Secretion of the last two hormone controled by TSH and ACTH
