2. The Organization: ATPAD
Advocacy for 
Teens to 
Promote 
Awareness of 
Domestic violence (ATPAD) is an organization designed to spark awareness of domestic violence in teens and offer solutions for those who are experiencing violence in their lives. It is a non-profit organization of nurses whose mission is to decrease the prevalence of teens involved in domestic violence cases through education in Kent County.

3. Many of these teens range from ages between 11 and 17 years of age!

4. Alarming Statistics
9.8 percent of high school students admit to abuse in the last 12 months (Centers for Disease Control).

5. Facts
Teen mothers experience a high risk for violence during their pregnancy and postpartum from their partners (Harrykissoon, Rickert & Wiemann, 2002).
Teens that experience domestic violence have higher risk for problems later in life including eating disorders, risky sexual behavior, substance abuse, sexually-transmitted diseases, suicide, and pregnancy (Silverman, Raj, Mucci & Hathaway, 2001).

6. ATPAD Aims to:
Empower students with knowledge and tools necessary to make and maintain healthy relationships.
Recognize that adolescents and teens have a unique perspective regarding relationships.
Collaborate with organizations to provide an effective educational program.
Utilize and manage our resources in a responsible manner.

7. Goals and Objectives
1. Ensure middle and high school students have information regarding the prevalence and effects of domestic violence through teaching public high school students about domestic violence.
2. Decrease the prevalence of teens involved in domestic violence cases evidenced by decreasing cases of domestic violence reported in teens by 50% within five years in Kent County.

By 2018, 90% of all public high school students will demonstrate knowledge of domestic violence through written and verbal skills. Students will be able to identify resources available in the community. By 2020, 80% of public middle school students will demonstrate knowledge through written and verbal skills on domestic violence.

9. Organization
In order to meet the organizational goals and fulfill its mission, ATPAD has developed an organizational chart to include :
Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools for Kent County,
Board of Directors of ATPAD,
Executive Director,
Program Director, and
Executive Assistant.
The Executive Director, Program Director and Executive Assistant will be paid positions.
The Fundraising Committee, Program Presenters, Social Workers, Counselors, and Law Enforcement officers will report to the Program Director.

10. Board of Directors Responsibilities
The Board of Directors for ATPAD will include the nurses responsible for the organization of ATPAD, as well as members of the community who have demonstrated or expressed interest in advocating for teens in Kent County.
Highlights of those responsibilities include:
Working closely with the Executive Director to oversee new programs, support fund raising opportunities, and participate in organizational functions to support ATPAD.
Monitor the progress of the organization as well as success and failures of the program.
Assure that the organization reflects the mission, philosophy, and goals.
Represent the program to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
Plan for future growth.

11. Executive Director Responsibilities
The Executive Director will work directly with and under the supervision of the Board of Directors. Highlights of the job includes:
Manage staff to implement new programs,
Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans,
Maintain working knowledge of developments and trends in the field,
Assure the organization is mirroring its mission and philosophy,
Represent ATPAD to agencies, organizations and the public.

12. Program Director Responsibilities
The Program Director will:
Develop the presentation of the program with input from counselors, social workers, and educators,
Manage the educational curriculum delivered within the schools,
Coordinate with the Executive Director to set up the program at local schools,
Oversee the presenters, as well as provide them with education and training,
Assure appropriate material presented in a sensitive manner and assure confidentiality within the program.

13. Executive Assistant Responsibilities
The Executive Assistant will handle a wide variety of complex, confidential and time sensitive material. Highlights of the position include:
Prepare reports and correspondence,
Support the Mission of ATPAD,
Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity,
Understand relevant legislation and policies
