Nikolai Mikhaylovich Przhevalsky was born on April 12, He was a Russian geographer of Polish origin and explorer of Central and Eastern Asia.

In 1870 Russian geographical society has organised the first expedition to the Central Asia. Przhevalsky has been appointed By its chief. It was his first journey to Central Asia. During this travel it has passed about eight thousand kilometres and has made shooting more than four thousand kilometres of a way through areas of the Central Asia. Monument to the traveller in St. Petersburg
Przhevalsky died of typhus didin't go through with his fifth journey, at Karakol on the lakeshore of Issyk-Kul in present day Kyrgyzstan. The Tsar immediately changed the name of the town to Przhevalsk. There are monuments to him, and a museum about his life and work, there and another monument in St. Petersburg.
