2. Construction
The Bunker was built simultaneously with the addition of the West Virginia Wing beginning in The construction of the addition provided cover for the excavation beneath it.

3. Secret Doors
The blast doors weigh 25 tons and can opened with only 50 pounds of pressure.
The Bunker was accessible from three outdoor entrances and one secret entrance in the resort itself.

4. Inside the Bunker
There were rooms where Congress could convene to conduct the affairs of government while in hiding.
Rows upon rows o f bunk beds- enough to provide every member of both houses of Congress with a night's rest.
The Bunker power plant featured three 25,000-gallon water storage tanks and purification equipment as well as three 14,000-gallon diesel fuel storage tanks.

5. Secret Out
It remained secret until exposed by The Washington Post in May, 1992.
The government allowed it to be
a tourist attraction in 1995.
