Title Page Below are some simple instructions on how to use this template: 1. You can change the text in the graphical screen above or in the outline area to the left. 2. There is one default background that is indicated by “ ” .This slide acts as a space or a blank screen, use to clear or blank the screen. If you have a large graphic such as a map you could also use this screen. If you insert a new slide you will get this default background. 3. The first five slides have the other backgrounds for the set. To use more than one of these background types in your presentation highlight the one you wish to use and choose copy from the edit menu. Paste this slide where you want it to appear in your presentation, then change the text on this new slide. By copy/pasting the slide in this manor you will keep the background, text formatting and the customized animation from that slide. By using the copy/paste method you find it saves you time and keeps a consistent look through out your presentation. 4.There are a few additional notes written in the slide text wording that may be helpful. Note: We are working on a website that in the future will provide help topics on using sermon outlines in PowerPoint as well as provide sermon templates similar to this one. Check for more information. Pastor/Teacher - Jim Rickard Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009

1 John 5:17 All Unrighteousness is Sin! The Doctrine of Sin
3
A. Definition. Sin is anything contrary to the character and nature of God, or acting independently of God and His provision. Sin is coming short of God's righteousness. Rom 3:23
4
B. General categories of sin.
5
1. Inherent Sin, Rom 5:12. When Adam sinned he acquired an Old Sin Nature (OSN). Man inherits the OSN through the father’s chromosomes, Psa 51:5.
6
2. Imputed Sin. When Adam sinned, the entire human race was counted guilty, 1 Cor 15:22. At physical birth God imputes Adam’s original sin into your OSN.
7
As a result, spiritual death occurs in the new born baby.
8
3. Personal Sin is a manifestation and result of having an OSN
3. Personal Sin is a manifestation and result of having an OSN. 1 John 1:8‑10
9
Two Kinds of Personal Sin:
10
Two Kinds of Personal Sin: a) Known sins,
11
Two Kinds of Personal Sin: a) Known sins, b) Unknown sins or sins we commit in ignorance.
12
C. The work on the Cross regarding sin.
13
1. Inherent sin. Jesus Christ died with reference to everyone's OSN, Rom 6:10.
14
1. Inherent sin. Jesus Christ died with reference to everyone's OSN, Rom 6:10. As a result we are legally divorced from our OSN and joined anew to Jesus Christ, Rom 7:1-6.
15
He made provision to handle sins from the OSN, 1 John 1:7
He made provision to handle sins from the OSN, 1 John 1:7. He also rejected human good which comes from the OSN, Eph 2:8‑9; Rom 4:4; 8:8; Heb 9:17; Isa 64:6.
16
2. Imputed sin. In Adam we are counted guilty, (1 Cor 15:22a; Rom 3:23), while in Christ we are counted not guilty, (1 Cor 15:22b; 2 Cor 5:21; Eph 2:1, 5‑6).
17
3. Personal sin. Jesus Christ bore the sins of everyone so that the unbeliever could be positionally cleansed from all sins, (John 13:9-10; 15:3; Eph 5:26; Titus 2:14; Heb 10:10), ….
18
… and the believer could be experientially cleansed from post salvation sinning. Psa 32:5; Prov 28:13; 1 John 1:9; 2:2.
19
4. The penalty of sin, spiritual death, Mat 27:46, is replaced by the provision of spiritual life for anyone who believes in Christ, Rom 6:22-23.
20
D. The Issue of Sin.
21
1. Unbeliever: the issue is rejection of Christ as savior, John 3:18, 36, the basis of their condemnation at the last judgment, Rev 20:11-15.
22
2. Believer: the issue is the utilization of the rebound technique, 1 John 1:9.
23
E. The Origin of Sin.
24
God is not the author of sin or temptation, James 1:13‑15, it originated with Satan through negative volition, Isa 14:12-14; Ezk 28:15-19.
