Believed they were THE authority for God’s people (Matt. 15:1-9)
“It is written…”; “Have you not read?”
“What did Moses command you?” (Mark 10:3)
“Keep the commandments” (Matt. 19:17; Mk. 10:19)
“Offer…which Moses commanded” (Mk. 1:44)
“What is written in the law?” (Luke 10:26)
“They have Moses and the prophets” (Lk. 16:29-31)
To be like Him, we must believe the Scriptures!

Knew how to find passages/references
Knew how to use the scrolls to find passages (Luke 4:16-19; cf. Isa. 61:1-2)
Knew passages and could quote from memory
When tempted by Satan (“It is written…” Matt. 4:1-11; cf. Deut. 8:3; 6:16; 6:13)
When asked about the great commandment (Matt. 22:36-40; cf. Deut. 6:4-5; Lev. 19:18)
Quoted from David, Isaiah, Hosea, etc.
But not just selective or superficial knowledge.
Knew & could show “the big picture” throughout Scripture (putting it all together) – Lk. 24:27, 44-45

Knew how to find passages/references
His knowledge came the same way as ours – study, desire & hard work!

At age of 12 in temple (Luke 2:46-47)
“His custom” - regularly at the synagogue (Lk. 4:16)
Jesus exhibited the deep desire of Matthew 5:6.
No formal education (John 7:15), but He still knew!
To be like Him, we must know the Scriptures!

Guide to daily living (Matt. 8:4; 12:7)
Answer for questions like MDR (Mt. 19:4; Mk. 10:3)
Source of eternal life (John 5:39; Matt. 19:17)

Jesus Respected the Scriptures (cf. Luke 4:16)
Respected its eternal, abiding nature
Respected its all-authoritative nature
Respected its authority in/over His own life
Longed to do the will of God:
Before His earthly presence (Heb. 10:5-7)
As a young boy (Luke 2:49)
As an adult (John 6:38; 8:29; Luke 4:43)

Respected its authority in/over His own life
Respected its infallible nature, the personal application it had directly to His life (cf. Mt. 22:31) & the necessity upon Him to fulfill its demands
