2 FAC/FACT/FIC Latin FACERE, FACTUM “To make, do”
1. Proficient adj. Skilled at; highly knowledgeable of L. pro, “forward,” + facere (FIC) = forward doing (going forth, achieving) Teresa is a proficient harpist, but she’s also a wonderful piano player. Syn: able Ant: unskilled 2. Factotum n. An assistant who does a variety of jobs L. facere (FACT) + totum, “all, everything”= one who does everything In my role as office factotum, I served coffee, made copies, called clients, and balanced the company checkbook.
