We are a Prevention Program, which means the youth in our program are not in trouble now.

Community mentoring
12 kids are waiting: - We need 10 male mentors! - We need two female mentors!

4. YOUTH PROFILE: Single-parent homes New to area
Need help making friends
May be isolated
Variety of socio-economic & ethnic backgrounds
Need a positive role model
Youth in our program have been identified as AT- RISK for:
Future Educational Failures, such as dropping out of school or lower grades or struggling in school,
Delinquency,
Or Risky Behaviors

5. OUR mentor requirements
Application
Two-hour training
Background check & interview
Matches based on common interests
Same-gender matching
Commit to at least one school year
It’s a privilege to become a mentor; not everyone has this opportunity. It requires a special person who can devote one hour a week to a child.

6. Youth paired with a mentor are:
52 percent less likely to skip school
46 percent less likely to begin using illegal drugs
32 percent less likely to hit someone while problem solving
27 percent less likely to begin using alcohol
Increases confidence & self-esteem!
These are national statistics. Our local evaluation shows that kids in our program exceed those percentages. For example. 94 percent of youth in BF after a one –year match show improvements in academic competency, social skills, behavior and attitudes.
