3 Goody Puritan dialect for “Mrs.”

4 Puritans Protestant religious group who came to New England from England in 1620. Aimed to create perfect society.

5 gibberish Unintelligible language; nonsense.

6 abomination A thing that creates intense disgust or hatred.

7 paradox A statement that is self contradictory because it often contains two statements that are both true, but in general, cannot be true at the same time. Examples: Jumbo shrimp I’m nobody The beginning of the end You shouldn’t go into water until you know how to swim.

8 monologue A long speech by a single character in a movie or play.

9 pious religious

10 tract A defined area of land

11 aside A remark in the play by one character that is meant to be heard by the audience but not by anyone in the play.

12 hypocrite Someone who pretends to be something they are not.
