1 Life after Year 11 WHAT ARE YOUR CHOICES?

2 Once you finish Year 11 you can;
Continue in Full-time education (6th form or college) Do an Apprenticeship Continue in part-time education/training as long as you are employed, self-employed or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week. You cannot leave school and go into work without further training or education – it is a legal requirement that you continue with some form of education or training until you are 18

3 GET THE NECESSARY GRADES!
APPLY for a further education place – this can be at a sixth form or college Get prospectuses - these are usually available from September Find out about and attend Open Evenings and discuss courses with staff. Ask questions! GET THE NECESSARY GRADES! Complete application forms and attend interviews – be prepared by having a good CV & Interview technique

DO AN APPRENTICESHIP… Go to the National Apprenticeship website and do some research to find out how they work Think about the occupational area(s) you’re interested in and find out about the apprenticeships available locally Speak to or Sue, the careers advisor, about local opportunities that she may be able to help you with GET THE NECESSARY GRADES! It’s competitive -you’ll need to show how good you are! Arrange to meet prospective employers, get work experience and show your commitment!

5 GET A JOB WITH TRAINING…
Find out about LOCAL VACANCIES (check the vacancies board outside the careers office) Think about what area of work you would like to go in to GET THE NECESSARY GRADES! Employers still expect them! Make sure the job offers formal training. Speak to the employer, perhaps arrange experience Apply for jobs that start from July 2015 Make sure you have a great CV and have practiced interviews thoroughly

6 PLAN AHEAD – what will you do after?
DO VOLUNTARY WORK… Find out about volunteering opportunities Speak to Sue, the careers advisor about what volunteering will offer you PLAN AHEAD – what will you do after? What skills will you develop that you can use in employment or education? Apply for volunteering work
