May 2014 Proposal For both PHY options, the packet energy efficiency for short packets is quite poor. A simple procedure to improve the energy efficiency of both options is proposed. It requires definition of a ULP signaling bit in the PHY header. In this mode previous parameters are used. Unused bandwidth is used to send more data. May 2014 PHY Header ULP To improve efficiency, PHY header can be used for data transmission as well. Use one bit of PHY header as ULP signaling indicator (either PHR7 or PHR11 can be used). In ULP state (ULP = 1), previous frame header parameters will be used.
